Whose lives do we IMPACT?
At field level, AGE Myanmar’s programmes support the entire population of vulnerable communities, but we also target special assistance to certain neglected groups and aim to amplify their voices.
- Older people: As its mandate and history reflect particular attention to older women and men, AGE Myanmar aids older people but also empowers them to be active contributors to their own communities.
- People with disabilities: AGE Myanmar aims to improve the financial security, dignity, and autonomy of people with disabilities, whether young or old, and also bring them into community leadership.
- Women: Our programmes aim for women’s empowerment and community leadership, with a specific target of 50% of ISHG leaders to be women. Older women in particular are an underappreciated and underutilised resource.
- Internally displaced persons (IDPs): Because of Myanmar’s current and historical experience of conflict, migration, and displacement, AGE Myanmar invests heavily in assisting IDPs.
- Minority groups: Particularly because of its presence in Myanmar’s border states, as well as diverse communities in central areas, AGE Myanmar pays special attention to barriers to inclusion faced by ethnic and religious minorities and other excluded groups.
- Local leaders: Our programmes take advantage of leadership potential within the target areas where we work, and strengthen skills. These leaders include the local networking committees that support ISHGs but also those filling roles in community and local governance.
